Okrun
Okrun was developed by the Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station and released in
1986. Okrun originated from a cross with Florunner and Spanhoma. Okrun
is classidied commercially as a runner.
Okrun is similar in appearance to Florunner in regards to plants, pods, and
seeds. It requires about the same lengtrh of growing season. Okrun is
vulnerable to all the typical diseases that attack the crop. But tests in Oklahoma
indicate that it has more resistance to leaf spots and pod rots than current commercial
runner varieties. Shelling data and end-use quality tests show Okrun to be
equal to or better than Florunner.
Spanco
Spanco was developed by the Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station and released in
1981. Spanco is a composite of two sister lines that originated from a cross between
Chico and Comet. Spanco is a high-yielding, early maturing typically Spanish
bunch-type peanut with erect growth habit. Spanco is not as early as Pronto, but is
ten days to two weeks earlier than currently grown varieties.
The vegetation is slightly darker than Pronto but is lighter than Florunner.
It has moderate sequential branching with flowers on the main
stem. The deeply restricted tan seed pod normally contains two seeds per pod. |
